The U.S. has 11.3 million woman-owned businesses which:
- Support nearly 9 million jobs
- Generate annual revenues of $1.6 trillion
Women are majority owners of 38% of American businesses…up from 29% in 2007.
Women are starting businesses 5 times faster than the national average.
Nearly 8 in 10 of woman-owned businesses launched in the last nine years were started by a woman of color.
Since 2007, woman-owned businesses are:
- Up 35% in revenues
- Up 18% in employment
States with the highest percentage of woman-owned firms:
- Washington, D.C.: 45.2%
- Georgia: 41.1%
- Maryland: 40.1%
- New Mexico: 40.1%
- Illinois: 39%
Industries with the highest percentage of woman-owned firms:
- Healthcare/social services: 64.6%
- Educational services: 56.9%
- Other services: 52%
- Administrative and support: 47.1%
- Retail: 41.8%
