SCORE | Mike Waters, Michelle Gaston

The video aims to increase awareness of SCORE, a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) focused on aiding small businesses and non-profits in Beaufort County and surrounding areas.

Experienced volunteers provide business mentoring free of charge and confidentially. This video features a conversation by volunteers Mike Waters and Michelle Gaston.  They describe SCORE's role in helping businesses get started and overcome challenges.

Michelle Gaston, a retired federal budget officer, emphasizes the importance of proper financial planning and documentation for small businesses, particularly when applying for loans and grants. She highlights the challenges of turning a passion into a successful business and underscores the need for a solid understanding of income, revenue, and expenses.

A new initiative, the Minority Small Business Support Program, has been introduced. This program aims to support underrepresented minority-owned businesses by offering awards ranging from $500 to $2,500. SCORE is in the process of convening community and business leaders to form an advisory group for award recommendations.

SCORE is seeking more volunteers for our non-profit mission.
